"we know what we are,
but not what we may be"
but not what we may be"
Cassius "Cas" Oliven
age 19 | gender MALE | starter VULPIX |
BIRTHDATE 11/08 | SEXUALITY ARO/ACE | Profession JOURNALIST |
PERSONALITY,
If he were to be type-cast, Cas would get the part of the straight man. Nothing sticks out about him as especially odd. He’s generally friendly, but isn’t immune to bad moods. He can’t be read like an open book, but he won’t win a game of poker. He laughs at the good jokes, goans at the bad, and if someone is acting weird, he’s going to feel weirded out. He’ll like those who are friendly, look up to those who are cool, dislike those who are adversive. One could call him normal.
While most people can place themselves as an “introvert” or “extrovert”, Cas finds himself somewhere in the middle. He enjoys speaking with people be them old friends or new faces, but just as much is to be gained from reading a book, staring into space, or happily doing his own thing. Cas is by no means shy, and he’s as happy to chat as anyone else, but he won’t be the first to the karaoke mic.
Cass is a jack of all trades; skilled at many but master of none. New skills come to him quickly. He can consistently be found in second or third place but alas, that gold trophy will never be his. This carries even to the skills he’s best at. He thinks, “hey, I’m pretty good at this”, and someone will come along and beat him soundly. On some of his more down days, it can make him feel inept, and over time has started to feed into a lack of confidence.
It doesn’t help that somewhere deep inside, Cas wants power. He wants to be the strongest, like no one ever was; where this comes from he isn’t sure, but it’s a big part of what drives him forward.
If he were to take a guess, he’d guess his want for power was to protect his friends. This would be half true. He has a streak of selfishness. Sometimes, to get what you want, you need to have power. However, Cas does value those close to him more than anything else; he’ll fight for them through fear and danger. If faced with the choice of saving a friend or a hundred random people, he’d choose the friend. Unlike many who have this trait, Cas is not willing to throw his life away for someone else - when it comes to mortality, it seems he’s a bit of a coward.
In a world full of so many talented people (not to mention powerful beings that can shoot electricity out of their faces), he wants to be worth something, and does society not say that power is equivalent to worth? Cas is the sort to be swayed by that sort of idea, as he isn’t grounded in any set of morals. He has the potential to make both of what a monetary system would deem “good” and “evil” choices. It all depends on what he weighs as his best option.
But whatever happens, Cas is simply glad to be alive. He takes simple pleasure in many things, from the smell of fresh bread to a good book, and he’s not willing to give that up. Also, Cas really likes puns.
Other: Cas is a good and attentive listener, and he’s more likely to remember what a person said than what their name was or what they looked like. Sometimes, especially before it rains, his left wrist aches. Cas is of average physical fitness. When it comes to love, Cas is extremely oblivious. He’s curious (very curious), helpful, and generally friendly.
Despite being good at persuasion (see “tallents”), Cas can be somewhat easily persuaded himself because of his shaky moral compass. Thankfully, he has the common sense to step back and mull over the important things. He’s not afraid to say he doesn’t have enough information to make a decision. He will be getting that information too- Cas isn’t a big fan of uncertainty. It’ll bug him like a bad itch.

TALENTS:
Cas’s talents include: being second best at everything.
Most skills come fairly easily to him, but a few things stick out on his resume.
First and foremost, Cas is very good at persuasion. Be it through truth, lies, or just the right delivery, Cas is apt at bringing others over to his side of an argument. He’s a talented white liar. While he’ll have some trouble looking you in the eye and lying about something potentially life-changing, he can tell you all about how good your terrible cooking is without missing a beat. He’s skilled at connecting seemingly separated topics or facts, and he’s good at saying what people want to hear. This is more of a mode than a constant factor of his personality; he’s not going to be lying to you constantly about how your hair works or trying to get you to buy something. However, if Cas is in a panic he’ll naturally start doing this.
Cas is skilled at writing. He’s good with words and at spinning what would normally be a boring story into something to occupy yourself with on the bus ride to work. His writing is the sort one can zone out to, but you can’t deny he has skill. He’s good at pulling out the important and interesting bits, and connecting dots others may not. Will he always choose the best story, putting good journalism above all else? Of course not. Half the time he’s writing about simple things going on in town; a new sculpture, small heroics, because that’s what he likes.
Cas is good at listening. He won’t zone out during conversation, and he enjoys hearing all that people have to say. He will also remember what people said.
Cas is good at not being bored. There’s always something to do, isn’t there?
